To help give you an idea, my Mohawk (243) has serial number 6744072. My Dad bought it new in December 1974 for my first deer rifle, which became my Christmas present that year. I killed my first deer with it almost 1 year later in my first year of hunting in Elk County, PA (Loleta). Cool little rifles.

Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random.
